Critique paper - Essay Example Basically, it is a positive effect in work output and efficiency due to the attention given by the management in understanding the needs and observing the work ethics of the people. Based on the article, Hawthorne effect works like an investment to the workforce. When the people are given what the need such as proper compensations, workload, and even trust, they are bound to produce better results which then serve as rewards to the organization or company (Accel, 2010). Based on the data presented by the article, Hawthorne effect can be considered as an observable positive effect due to the attention given by the superiors or the researchers. There are underlying issues then in such case. Due to the probability of a Hawthorne effect, the credibility of the results of the study decreases. In an analysis of the Hawthorne effect and the empirical research undertaken in Hawthorn Works of the Western Electric Company there are factors questionable in the research (Adaira, 1984). One signi ficant observation is related to the procedure undertaken. There are problems in the variables involved in the study. Basically, defining the variables in a study is the most important part of the procedure.

English Composition - Essay Example They are country people who are happy living on the edge of the country which is shown when a cow pokes around the backyard. Maggie is content with the idea that she will be marrying an unattractive but dependable man who she doesn’t really love but who she is comfortable with. He also lives in their small town so she won’t need to move too far away from her mother. When she was little, she was trapped in a fire that caused scarring on her arms and legs. Her own ugliness makes her shy and withdrawn. This idea is carried through the story as Maggie seems to only hover around the edges of her sister’s visit. In her interests and activities, Maggie is more like her uneducated mother. Although she tries to read to her mother in the evenings like Dee did, â€Å"she stumbles along good-naturedly but can’t see well. She knows she is not bright.† She is used to doing things the same way her ancestors did which is made clear when it’s mentioned that s he understood the â€Å"small sinks; you could see where thumbs and fingers had sunk into the wood† of the butter churn’s dasher. While she values the family’s cultural treasures, she values them on a number of levels. Maggie enjoys her heritage from a lived experience. Dee, on the other hand, is known for her good looks, her outgoing charm and her ‘refusal to be denied.’ Her mother talks about how she’s had a charmed childhood. She was always able to get her way with other people. She had and still has natural charm and good looks. She is also intelligent which made it possible for her to reach a higher level of education than the rest of her family. Although her mother doesn’t know whether or not Dee’s married to the man she travels, but Mama is afraid to ask. Overall, Dee’s attitude is very much like a middle class urban woman. This life doesn’t seem to be completely satisfying though since she spends her visit desperately

Promotional Strategies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Promotional Strategies - Essay Example Then, the next most important element of promotion is the targeting factor, which pertains to the way the business would communicate with its customers. Thus, an airline would cope up with the rivals by marketing and promoting itself in the form of both, print and television channels. In order to secure a successful position and share in the market, the organization would try to be extremely cost- efficient and avoid the excess expenditures. Besides this, most of the advertisement in the airline industry is undertaken through the word of mouth advertisements (Anon, n.d.). One of the major success factors for the positioning of the airline company is to be considerate regarding its market positioning. The term’ positioning’ refers to the unique image and the distinguishing position that the business makes of itself in the minds of the consumers. Since, airline is a service industry; it needs to put in extra efforts to provide superior quality services to its customers in order to give rise to a better word of mouth advertisement (Goizueta & Roberto C., 1990). Thus, the company needs to have with it a well-defined and sophisticated model of the business which utilizes the short hauls and single aircraft type for the purpose of positioning itself while keeping its costs low. The lowest possible fares, more routes to be flown, timely flights, excellent services in the plane, and getting the passengers to their destinations quicker are all the services which shall be helpful.... The provision of quick services, comfortable environment and the reasonable costs is all what forms the unique image of the company. This strategy, furthermore, assists the company build a positively reinforced image in the minds of the customers (Benady & Simonian, 2005). One of the companies following the above mentioned promotional strategies include Southwest Airlines, which has been able to generate quicker revenues at relatively lower costs. Optical Spinel Ceramics Processing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Optical Spinel Ceramics Processing - Essay Example Alternatively, efforts to â€Å"make polycrystalline spinel by traditional hot pressing of powder have led to inhomogeneous material, typified by opaque nontransmitting regions, thereby making it unsuitable for practical applications† (Sanghera et al, 215). The properties of spinel optical ceramics can be described as follows: The composition of the material is MgAl2O4. The typical grain size of the material is bimodal in nature, 25 µm average and 150  µm averages. The structure is cubic, spinel. Lattice constant of the material is 8.082A. Density is 3.58 g/cc. It is polycrystalline in form with a melting point of 2135?C. Young’s modulus of the material is 276GPa and the sheer modulus is 18.9?106 psi. The material’s Poisson’s ratio is 0.26, and hardness of the material is 1650 Kg/mm2. Fracture toughness of the material holds a record of 1.5 MPa-m1/2 and the flexure strength is 170MPa. Specific heat of the material is 0.8191 J/g - ?C. The transition lim its are 0.25 to 6.5 microns and the thermal conductivity is 25W/m-C @25 ?C (Spinel Optical Ceramic). The present study focuses on learning about the processing of spinel optimal ceramics, including ceramic product processing, their characterization, and applications. Ceramic Product Processing: With the help of ceramic product processing, commercial products of varying sizes, shapes, details, and complexities, are produced. These products may also reflect varying compositions of their materials, structure and cost. The growing capacity to purify, expand and distinguish ceramic materials has led to application of ceramics processing into the field of science. In general, heat is applied on the material for the production of the ceramic as well as on other raw materials in order to develop a unbending product. For ceramic products that make use of naturally occurring materials like rocks and minerals, there is a need for special processing of the materials. This helps in controlling t he transparency, size of particle, distribution of the particle sizes, and heterogeneity of the materials. All these factors have a significant effect on the final product being developed, which is the finished ceramic. In case of some ceramic materials, the starting materials used for processing include powders that are prepared chemically. With the help of accurate chemical compositions and sizes of particles the synthetic materials may be used to control the production of these powders (Ceramic Processing). Once this step is achieved, the ceramic materials are transformed into particular shapes. Water and additives are added to the material for this purpose after which a shape forming process is applied on the materials. The forming techniques that are most commonly used for the purpose include extrusion, slip casting, pressing, tape casting and injection molding. Once the formation of the ceramics is complete, a green color of the ceramics would be obtained. Heat is then applied on this formed material which is a treatment referred as firing or sintering that leads to the production of a finished product rigid in nature. In some cases a glazing process is also applied, particularly where the products include electrical insulators, dinnerware and tiles. Ceramics processed for highly developed applications may undertake a machining and/or a step for polishing the materials such that they can

Improve management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Improve management - Essay Example To me, it is also a chance to get to realize my full potential, get in touch with personal self and lastly, to focus on what I want to attain in the long-term or in short-term period. In this report, I will focus on my personal strengths and weaknesses, as well as how I can make full use of my strengths towards attaining my objectives, addition to improving my weaknesses and making them my strengths. 1. Evaluation of Skills and Knowledge Personal evaluation is a key stage in the self-improvement cycle that enables one to rediscover himself. The four areas I would like to concentrate on include decision-making, communication skills and time management. i) Decision-making According to McKee (2012), decision-making is an integral part of management that should be based on logical choice of available alternatives. In essence, the process of making a decision should be backed up by critical thought process. I have been slow in making decisions as I prefer to assemble as much information a s possible rather than rush into a decision. Most of thise decisions have however tended to be dependable and less disappointing. I always tend to weigh between alternatives before coming up to a decision. Overall For example, while working at my father’s firm, I always tended to research and choose between alternatives. In some instances, I had to confer with expert opinion from the more experienced staff. The result is that the decisions were always welcome among the senior management and my supervisors. However, some of my decisions have been regrettable, which means that I still need to focus on improving my decision-making skills. In making decisions, an individual must weigh the alternative options, including the negatives and positives. One must also be able to have a foresight on the outcome of the alternatives taken (McKee, 2012). ii) Time-management Time management comprises processes or activities that involve scheduling and implementing conscious organization of t he amount of time spent performing different activities to increase one’s productivity or effectiveness (McKee, 2012). Working at my father’s business, I could always get overwhelmed with task. I also had to avoid more difficult tasks and go for simpler ones. I have also faced issues with tardiness as I’m always late for meetings. I also have trouble meeting deadlines for my assignments. This has resulted in instances where I had lost businesses after having been late in completion of a customer’s order. I also fall behind projects and sometimes work longer in my projects than necessary which has caused me to be stressed or feel fatigued. I’m also always unprepared, for instance, although I may always have sufficient information for my presentation in a meeting, poor preparation often renders my presentation ineffective (Avolio, 2005). iii) Communication Skills Great communication skills implies one has the ability to convey information effectively through exchanging messages, information or thoughts effectively, while stimulating feedback at the same time. Communication is judged to be effective when it is complete, meaning; the receiver has understood the message and acted responsively (McKee, 2012). Able to talk confidently regardless of whom I'm talking to or the situation. While working at my

Pollution Essay Chapter I (AIR POLLUTION) I. Background of the study: * According to the study Metro Manila including Quezon City is much polluted because of the particles emitted by thousand of motor vehicles plying the streets/roads of whole Metro Manila and everyday they contribute to a large extent to the large smoky haze of the metropolis. Commuters like us students that are using jeeps, motorcycles, and other non-air-conditioned mode of transport have taken or prone to the harmful particles in the air. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are cancer causing pollutants chemicals that are release by the combustion process in the motor vehicles. Other studies shows commuters, residents and including like us are exposing to the harmful toxins in the air that can cause health risks including cancer. Other cause of Air pollution that can cause to our health is smoking and the second-hand smoke around the campus area, all we know smoking is very dangerous to our health but many of us are still smoking, the smoke from their cigarettes are also can harm the health of the non-smokers around health because the smoke from their cigarettes are containing chemicals like hydrogen cyanide, Benzene, formaldehyde and etc. that can harm to the health of others. * As we know STI COLLEGE FAIRVIEW is located REGALADO Ave. and regalado avenue is one of the busy roads of Quezon City and a lot of public and private vehicle travel around our campus/ area that’s why we are prone to AIR POLLUTION and the addition of the heavy smokers. Here are the some effects of air pollution according to DOH Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) and ozone are pollutants of serious health concern in Metro Manila; â™ ¦Motor vehicles are the major sources of particulate pollution in Metro Manila; â™ ¦Considerable morbidity and mortality due to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases could have been prevented with better air quality in Metro Manila in 2002; â™ ¦For every 10ÃŽ ¼g/m3 increases in PM10, incidence rates for respiratory and natural mortality increase by 2.6% and 3.9%, respectively; â™ ¦Indoor PM10 increases as outdoor PM10 increases with cigarette smoking as significant contributor to indoor PM10 levels; â™ ¦ Better cooking fuel quality reduces occurrence of hospital admissions. Household using LPG as fuel for cooking has the lowest hospital admissions of 19.3% compared with those using wood (27.3%) and kerosene (25.3%). â™ ¦ Child Health: Incidence of respiratory symptoms and diseases increases as level of exposure to particulate matter pollution increases; Asthma incidence rate is 14.9 per 1,000 population in high PM10 exposure area, 11.5 in medium exposure area and 8.2 in low exposure area. Significant risk factors for respiratory symptoms are age, indoor NO2 level, cooking fuel and educational attainment of mothers; There is a significant improvement in blood lead levels among children in Metro Manila. In 2003, only 34.6% of study children exceeded the US Centre for Disease Control guideline value of 10 ÃŽ ¼g/dl, an improvement from the 90.3% value in 2000. â™ ¦Adult Health: The type of household cooking fuel and number of smokers in the household are significant predictors of respiratory symptoms among adults; Fine particulate pollution contributes to events of respiratory symptoms and diseases The same study estimated the deaths in Metro Manila attributable to PM10 level above 50ÃŽ ¼g/m3 were from 230 to 390 persons II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM III. SCOPE LIMITATION * The scope of this study is the students of STI COLLEGE FAIRVIEW and other students of OLFU that are prone to air pollution and the students that having health problems like asthma and etc. * The limitation of smoking area for the smokers is atlease 10 meters away from the campus area.
